At UTC Leeds, we are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment where every student, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), can thrive and achieve their full potential. This page provides essential information about our SEND provision, support services, and how we work to meet the needs of all our students.

Our SEND Commitment

We believe that every student deserves access to high-quality education tailored to their individual needs. Our approach to SEND is centered around:

  • Personalised Learning: Tailoring teaching methods and resources to meet the specific needs of each student.
  • Inclusive Practices: Creating an environment where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with students, parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure effective support and intervention.
Identifying SEND

Students may require additional support for a range of reasons, including:

  • Learning Difficulties: Such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, or ADHD
  • Physical Disabilities: That impact their ability to access the curriculum
  • Sensory Impairments: Including visual or hearing impairments
  • Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Needs: That affect their well-being and learning

At UTC Leeds, we use a range of assessment tools and observations to identify students who may need additional support. Our staff are trained to recognize signs of SEND and will work with you to address any concerns.

SEND Provision and Support

We offer a range of support services and interventions to help students with SEND succeed:

  • Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Tailored plans that set specific targets and outline the support and resources required.
  • In-Class Support: Additional assistance from teaching assistants to help with specific learning needs.
  • Specialist Interventions: Access to specialised programs and therapies as needed, including speech and language therapy and occupational therapy.
  • Pastoral Support: Emotional and social support to help students manage any challenges they may face.

Our SEND Coordinator (SENDCo) oversees all aspects of SEND provision and ensures that each student's needs are met effectively.

Working with Families

We value the input and partnership of families in supporting students with SEND. We will:

  • Offer Advice and Guidance: Provide support and resources to help you support your child’s learning at home.
