Winners! Outstanding Governance in a Single School

The NGA recognised the strength of our vision, ‘to inspire the next generation of leading engineers, scientists and innovators’ and praised our Trustees for their investment in this aim. Judges were also impressed with our Trustees’ commitment to cultivating a culture of inclusion and diversity, particularly promoting women in STEM and social mobility for disadvantaged students.

This has been a fantastic year for UTC Leeds, which also received a ‘Good’ Ofsted judgement in January with ‘Outstanding’ in two areas. Inspectors noted the strength of our governance at the time, stating, “Governors know this school well. They play an important part in ensuring that the uniqueness of what it offers pupils and the community continues to strengthen.”

Tim Craven, Chair of Trustees for UTC Leeds, said, ““We are honoured to receive this award and proud of the recognitionfor our trustee team and their commitment to the UTC at Leeds. The dedication of our leadership, teaching and support teams make UTC Leeds such a fantastic educational experience for our students. We are pleased to represent the wider UTC network that is so effectively led by the Baker Dearing Trust.

“These awards are so important to highlight the significant voluntary time and effort put in by Trustees and Governors across the country to enable better outcomes for our students.”

NGA’s Outstanding Governance Awards provide an important opportunity to celebrate the hard work of governors and Trustees who play an essential role in the success of our schools and the futures of our young people. We were delighted that our own Trustees were recognised with such a prestigious award for their commitment to the students of UTC Leeds.
